The Department of Special Education
The Department of Special Education at Ghent University has a group of about 15 researchers that are involved in the field of Disability Studies and Inclusive Education. To build a stable basis for research this group works within a structural cooperation with:
- Parents for Inclusion (a family group active in the Flemish speaking part of Belgium and consisting of about 400 families)
- Our New Future (a self-advocacy group – about 80 members – of adults with intellectual disability)
- the Flemish Expertise Center for Inclusion in Higher Education Institutions (a 5 year (2008-2013) project to give support to all Higher Education Institutions in the Flemish speaking part of Belgium)
- UCBO/UCRO a diagnostic and job coaching service for persons with disabilities
