Description of the tool:

BAES means a digital open library for Higher Education created to give support to SWI, namely blind or low vision ones.

This tool was created by a consortium of portuguese HEI ), coordinated by Univeristy of Porto,  who acts as Production Centers of didactic material in alternative formats such as audio, Pdf, full text integrated in this digital library to be consulted by SWI attending the consortium universities.

The Support Office of U. Coimbra is one of those Production Centers.

Atually it contains more than 3.000 titles (articles and books) in several areas of study.

Students can access to those titles through a special registration while attending any of the university' network partners.

However, the University of Coimbra has already give access to foreign SWI interested in consulting it.

 

User manual:

The aim of this eletronic platform is to promote the production, access and sharing of information to SWI, through the insert of bibliographic material in alternative formats. That insert obeys to strict production rules, disseminated within the Centers of Production, in order to make the material available.

The technical support is given by the Informatic Unit of the Main Library of the University of Coimbra, since this on-line library is associated to an integrated system linking on the University libraries, called SIBUC.
