Description of the tool:

On initiative of the Service for disabled students and in cooperation with the university's HR department and with several agencies on the territory, it was held a series of workshops in which university staff, disabled students, university's teaching and administrative/technical staff and educational experts were involved in activities aimed to concretely practice inclusive attitudes and approaches.

The workshops – that also had moments during which disabled students trained university staff on the own supportive tools (e.g. about assistive software) - achieved important success and enthusiastic reactions by the participants. But especially, they greatly contributed to the strengthening and enlargement of the local network dealing with disability issues within and outside university.

The initiative was especially inspired by the aim to spread training and awareness to the largest audience possible, in order to not keep disability issues as an exclusive matter of experts (i.e. anti-specialist approach characterizing the Italian "way" towards disability).

User manual:

The organization of such a kind of initiatives requires of course the approval of University's managers. But also their support and whenever possible – in order to enhance the potential impact of the initiatives -  their personal participation at the initiative.

As participants should be included actors willing to get involved in the initiative, somehow sensitive to disability and that may be capable to transmit what learned to their colleagues in the own office/department.

Several sessions may be organized according to a pre-defined and progressive education purpose and/or involving actors from different areas of the University and the local network in order to have a wider coverage.

In Bologna were successfully used workshops. But other kind of methods may be used according to the local requirements, aims and topics, which have also to be locally defined.
