In Aarhus University, a specialized unit offers guidance and support for students with physical, neurological and mental impairments as well as dyslexia. All together, there are around 40 employees working fulltime with supporting, guiding and administering support for students with impairments at AU. To have a specialized unit such as the Counseling and Support Unit makes it possible to constantly develop and improve the support offered to the students.

User manual:

To develop a specialized unit such as the Counseling and Support Unit takes a lot of time and a lot of resources which may limit the possibilities for directly applying the tool in another university context, where such an office does not already exist.

However, the idea of having employees whose only task it is to work with supporting, guiding, and administering support for students with impairments has proved very useful in AU, and therefore we find it important to include this good practice as a tool.
